What an amazing lineup of whiskies. Each one had a very distinct character, the two Blair Athols were completely polar providing a great comparison of the effects of cask type (and age) on distillery character.
But which were my favourites?
My favourite tonight?

Erm… Loved the nose on Defender of the Faith and Palate on Voodoo!
Or was it Ruthrie… all bangin 💥

The Annandale Defender of the Crown had a fantastic nose, easily for me, the best-smelling whisky of the evening, the peat smoke adding an extra dimension to the rich dark fruit of the Oloroso sherry influence.
On the palate, however, I found the 7 Year Old Blair Athol, another Oloroso sherry matured to win out on taste. For me it was richer with dark fruits and dunnage earthiness, perhaps more appealing to this Autumnal feeling, August weather, we are currently experiencing.
A huge thanks to both Brave New Spirits and The Whisky Wire for the chance to try the latest releases in this incredibly varied lineup.
